The Hans Device is a safety device designed to reduce the risk of head and neck injuries in motorsports. It was developed by Dr. Robert Hubbard and Jim Downing in the 1980s and has since become mandatory in many forms of motorsport around the world.
The device consists of a carbon fiber collar that is worn around the driver's neck and shoulders. It is designed to prevent excessive movement of the head and neck during a crash, which can help to reduce the forces on the head and neck that can cause serious injury or even death. The Hans Device works by transferring the forces that would normally be transmitted to the driver's head and neck during a crash to the stronger and more stable parts of the body, such as the chest and shoulders. This reduces the likelihood of injury and can help to save lives in the event of a crash. The Hans Device is now widely used in many forms of motorsport, including Formula One, NASCAR, and the World Rally Championship, and is considered to be one of the most important safety innovations in the history of motorsports.
The lightweight HANS III is now available in a youth size. The SFI 38.1 certified Youth, Medium, Large HANS III features a hollow collar that substantially minimizes weight and is engineered for the growing young racer. Reinforcements ensure an exceptionally strong structure that provides the same level of safety as every HANS device. Each HANS Device is sold complete with two anchors (enough for one helmet), pads, and matching tether. Select standard button style (left) or Quick Click system with red pull string. Made in the USA.
